Perception is everything. I was a tom-boy growing up on our family farm. Jeans, t-shirts, boots and that pleasurable dirt-ring necklace after a long day outside. That kind of necklace was the only girly preoccupation I allowed. I enjoyed getting dirty. And I was always looking for a new adventure…review the shadowy places in the old grain cribs in the barns or wander all over our acreage to find catch or maybe an interesting hobo travelling through.

Unfortunately, no treasures or hobos were ever found on the farmhouse. Lots of mud, slugs, and needless to say, trouble were added to my list of accomplishments. Our closest neighbors had two boys; one my age, the other a twosome years younger. We’d get together occasionally, when our Moms said it was OK, and conspire. After unconfessed back from one of our trips I can remember their Mom spraying us down with a garden hose giving us that “what the hell were you viewpoint” lecture. We didn’t play together much after that.
